5 design trends for wedding invitations that are actually timeless

Every year and every season trends change and even when I love some there are others that need to go away forever… but I am not going to talk about those because, at the end, it’s your wedding and you get to do whatever you want and makes you happy, even if it’s crazy popular at the moment.

But what I want to cover today is those things are seem to be trendy all the time! And maybe you haven’t noticed but some details in the wedding invittaion design world seem just timeless, and these are some of my favorites:

1) Bold Typography

Bold, dramatic, interesting and striking typography is a trend that won’t go anywhere in the near future, especially when it’s strategically applied to some elements in the composition to create more interest and balance. Couples are opting for text that makes a statement and sometimes they prefer to direct all the attention to the text as a crucial part of the design, compromising (in a very positive way) the inclusion of other graphic elements. A beautifully make calligraphy, for example, can become the perfect way for a couple to add an element that reflects more their personalities than an illustration, for example.

2) Metallic accents

And from all the colors, gold is the king! In different shades and levels of shine, gold is the most popular among couples to add a metallic detail to their wedding invitations. Whether it's a metallic border, thread or a gold wax seal, metallic accents are a great way to make your invitations stand out. They add a touch of elegance and sophistication that is sure to impress your guests and also help to connect the design of your stationery with the elements included in your decor and even the venue.

3) Watercolor Illustrations

Watercolor illustrations are a trend that has gained popularity over the past few years, and it's surely not going anywhere. These beautiful illustrations are perfect for couples who want a more organic, natural look for their wedding invitations as well as a preferred way to show more personal details such as the wedding venue, the city where the wedding will be held and even the couple’s pets.

4) Letterpress

I’ll never get tired of letterpress invitations and couple’s seem to love them more every year… and I hear for it! Letterpress is the perfect printing technique for timeless and elegant invitations that allow couples to add more texture tu their designs as well as a more handcrafted final look. The beauty of a designed pressed on paper that creates such a beautiful and dramatic texture is something that people are falling more in love year after year.

5) Botanical Prints

Featuring all the florals, lush greenery, delicate botanicals and other natural elements that is one perfect way to add a touch of color and nature to the wedding invitation design, and an all-tine favorite by couples and many stationery designers. The beauty of adding botanical elements is that they not only integrate the design with the entire mood of the wedding but also help you tell your story in a more delicate way.

So these are just some of the “trends” I believe will stay strong during the rest of 2023. Do you love them? Use them and add always your personal touch to make your invitations special and unique. Remember, your invitations must be a reflection of who you are as a couple and the vision you both have for your wedding day so bring those ideas to reality by creating a design that may be trendy (or not) but always be you!
